RESPONSIBILITIES:
Golder is currently seeking several hard-working, responsible individuals to fill the role of seasonal Field Assistant Archaeologists. At the present time, these are hourly positions, with the bulk of the hours spanning May to September 2012, but additional hours may occur before or after that period. The candidates will work with members of the Cultural Resource Management Group from across B.C., assisting with the design, implementation and execution of projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable and diverse work experience. New graduates and students with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
Although these positions are based out of our Burnaby, Fort Saint John, Kamloops, and Victoria offices, the postings primarily involve field work and applicants will be expected to travel to various locations within British Columbia.
Responsibilities will include field skills such as archaeological survey and assessment work, in addition to conducting laboratory and office-based tasks such as background research, artifact cataloguing and analysis, site form preparation and aspects of report writing. It is expected that the candidate will be able to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment. The candidate must be willing to travel, work in remote areas and will likely be required to be away from home for extended periods.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or equivalent;
• Experience working with First Nations;
• Knowledge of BC archaeological site types is considered an asset;
• BC Field Director status would be an asset;
• Excellent physical ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of locations and conditions, including extended travel;
• Must be able and willing to perform field work in a variety of environmental conditions;
• Proven oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to contribute to a team work environment as well as to work independently;
• Solid aptitude in MS Office;
• Knowledge of, and comfort with, electronic devices such as survey instruments is preferred.
• Valid BC Driver’s license (Class 5) or equivalency; and
• A commitment to health and safety leadership.
